Formlabs is bringing its resin printing workflow to a lower price point with the Form Studio 1, a $699 machine built around automated resin dispensing, guided setup and the company’s Low Force Display technology.
Announced on October 14, the printer is available to order, with global shipping scheduled to begin November 16, 2026, according to Formlabs’ launch announcement. The proposition is straightforward: reduce the setup and tuning involved in resin printing while keeping access to third-party materials.
A $50 upgrade adds a flexible build plate
The Basic package costs $699 including shipping. The Flex package costs $749 including shipping and adds a flexible build plate for easier part removal.
A Founders Edition Flex package carries the same $749 price, with Graphite, Aqua, Violet and Teal case options. Formlabs says Founders Edition availability runs through November 30, or while supplies last.
The printer offers a 200 x 125 x 235 mm build volume within a 342 x 315 x 502 mm footprint and weighs 14.5 kg. Ethernet and Wi-Fi handle connectivity, while a seven-inch touchscreen provides setup instructions and print status.
Its print engine combines Low Force Display full-layer curing with a 28-LED backlight delivering 6 mW/cm² at the print plane. Published pixel specifications differ: the launch announcement lists 35 µm, while reseller Objective3D lists 30 µm.

Guided setup handles more than build plate leveling
Setup prompts users to level the entire printer, helping keep automatic resin dispensing balanced.
The hardware includes a tab-locking build plate, a vat secured by two clamps, conduction resin heating and a camera for remote viewing and time-lapses. Audible alerts indicate component changes or problems detected during printing.
Print preparation uses Formlabs’ proprietary PreForm software. Open Material Mode permits third-party resins without a license fee, though users must calibrate those materials themselves. That offers material flexibility while leaving the slicing workflow within Formlabs’ software.

Low-emissions certification depends on the complete setup
Formlabs’ UL GREENGUARD Gold certification applies when the Form Studio 1 prints Alpha Resins with the VOC Extractor, a $179 accessory. Alpha resins start at $29 per liter, and properly post-processed parts meet ISO 10993 requirements for long-term skin contact, according to the company.
Liquid resin still requires careful handling, protective gloves, eye protection and a well-ventilated workspace.
Post-processing adds equipment and work beyond the printer purchase. The separate Form Studio Wash+Cure costs $199. Parts need washing, complete drying and curing according to the material’s requirements before use, including applications involving prolonged skin contact.
